LSI Showcases Second Generation SAS6 Devices at CeBIT 2011, Including a PCI Express SSD

During the CeBIT 2011 fair, which was held last week in Hannover, Germany, LSI has showcased its second generation of SAS6 devices as well as the company's first PCI Express solid state disk which goes by the name of Warpdrive. The first solution available with the new chip is called the SAS 9265-8i and offers 8 internal SAS6 RAID ports. This installs inside an open PCI Express x8 slot and is compatible with low-profile server chassis as it uses a half-height PCB.
LSI's new controller chip was also spotted inside a 16-port SAS6 switch, that was labeled as the DVT-1.
Thanks to the point-to-point serial protocol that stands at the heart of the SAS standard, each port has 4 SAS6 lanes available to it, allowing users to install up to 64 drives to the switch.
In addition, the SAS standard support cable lengths of up to 6 meters for passive cables, and LSI's switch also packs a pair of Active Cable ports that allows for cables up to 25 meters in length to be connected to it (LSI will have a 20-meter cable available in a short while).
Finally, the last product to be showcased was the LSI Warpdrive, the company's first PCI Express solid state drive.
